Auk Archives: The Gracie’s Collection

At the end of the last century, in a very different Portland, Oregon, rent was cheap ... and even cheaper if you were willing to lurk around semi-legally within an old industrial warehouse. It was in this context that a group of artists, dissidents, and bohemians decided to open their oversized metal doors to serve brunch and facilitate experimental creativity. And so, Gracie’s Birdcage was born. This volume brings together some of the publications that came out of this social laboratory durings its few shorts years of existence.
